The MC has started issuing challans for wasting water in Chandigarh
CHANDIGARH: In view of the increased water demand during the peak summer season, the Chandigarh municipal corporation has stretched the duration of supply by one hour. It starts now at 3am instead of 4am.
“We have started supplying water from 3 o’clock in the morning, so that there is adequate time for filling of the overhead tanks of residents with proper pressure during the early hours. The residents can use the same throughout the day. Our engineers are also monitoring the supply pressure in both morning and evening hours,” said an official of the engineering department of the civic body.
Meanwhile, certain areas in the city, mainly in southern sectors, have started complaining of water scarcity. The Chandigarh Residents’ Associations Welfare Federation (Crawfed) wrote to the municipal corporation a few days back to look into the problem urgently.
In a letter, the Crawfed pointed out that for nearly a fortnight now, water pressure in the southern sectors is low and not good enough to fill the overhead tanks. “This problem has been brought to our knowledge by the RWAs of sectors 47, 41, 33… People are having tough time sourcing water from ground floor for supplies to 2nd and top floors of their dwelling units. We request you to make arrangements for proper supply of water with full pressure, so that overhead tanks get filled at least once in a day,” the federation wrote.
Sources in the corporation revealed that water takers have also been kept ready to provide water in the areas from where shortage is reported. These tankers can be called by dialing the helpline numbers of the civic body.
