Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu reports more than 1,000 Covid-19 cases for second day | Chennai News

CHENNAI: As Tamil Nadu reported more than 1,000 new Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day, the state government on Monday opened up more spaces for treatment and quarantine facilities to deal with the surging number of coronavirus infections in its capital city.
On Monday, 1,162 new cases were added to the states tally, taking the total number of cases to 23,495*. Eleven deaths pushed the toll to 184 cases. On Sunday, the state reported 1,149 cases.
As many as 967 of the new cases were reported in Chennai, taking its tally to 15,770.
“All our peripheral hospitals will treat mild and moderate cases while severe cases will be reserved for medical colleges. Those who have no symptoms or have very mild symptoms will be taken to Covid-19 care centres,” said health minister C Vijaya Baskar. The state would add at least 400 more beds in Stanley Medical College Hospital, he said.
Of the new 1,162 cases, 1,112 were from within Tamil Nadu, 50 others were returnees from other states.
At the end of the day, 413 people were discharged, and the number of people cured so far is 13,170. There are 10,138 active cases.
*Note: Two deaths were cross notified to other states. one patient died after turning negative for infection.
