Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu’s fresh Covid-19 cases cross 1,000 for third day, 13 die | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s fresh Covid-19 cases crossed 1,000 for the third day on Tuesday, and Chennai again reported most of these cases —809 out of 1,091. The state has so far registered 24,586 cases.
Thirteen patients died, taking the death toll to 197. Four patients who died were in their 50s, one was 62 years old and eight others were in their 70s.
As the number of cases in Chennai increased, officials strengthened containment measures, without compromising on basic necessities and economic activities.
Chennai’s neighbours Chenagapet has 82 fresh cases while Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 15 and 43 new cases.
Earlier in the day, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said the state had adequate testing kits and had been aggressively testing people. On Tuesday, the state tested 10,558 people.
He said the increasing number returnees from other states were testing positive for the viral infection.
As many as 536 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours taking the number of cured patients to 13,706. There were 10,680 active cases on Tuesday evening.
