TOI takes a look at advice from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to contain cyberbullying, a crime that includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false or mean information and content about someone. This serious offence is punishable under cyber laws.

Cyberbullying covers nasty comments on posts or posts about someone, creating a fake profile in someone’s name to defame the target, sending threatening or abusive messages online or on mobile phone, excluding someone from online groups and forums for wrong reasons, and uploading embarrassing photographs without the subject’s permission.

It covers rumours and lies about someone on a website, stealing people’s account password, and sending them unwanted/inappropriate messages. Offensive chat is also cyberbullying.
