Guruji returns after beating Covid, to canvass for polls | Ranchi News

RANCHI: JMM president Shibu Soren returned to Ranchi on Thursday afternoon after recovering from the Covid-19 infection at a private super-specialty hospital in Gurugram and taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member.
Party leaders said ‘Guruji’ will be actively involved in canvassing for the Bihar assembly polls for JMM and alliance candidates and the Dumka bypolls in the state, where his youngest son, Basant Soren, is likely to be fielded.
On Thursday, the 76-year-old former chief minister arrived at the Birsa Munda International Airport in an Indigo flight at 1:30 pm. His son and chief minister Hemant Soren received him. Looking hale and hearty, Shibu walked out of the airport on foot and boarded Hemant’s car. They then drove to Shibu’s official residence in Morhabadi.
While both Sibhu and Hemant refused to speak to the media, party spokesperson Manoj Kumar Pandey, who also arrived at the airport to receive Shibu, said, “It is of huge relief for us that Guruji came back fit and fine. May the almighty bless him with a long life.”
Shibu tested positive of Covid-19 along with his wife Rupi Soren on the night of August 22 and was kept in home isolation. On August 24 evening, he was shifted to Medanta Hospital at Irba in Ormanjhi block after he complained of breathlessness and loss of appetite. He was administered plasma in the early hours of August 25 and was taken to New Delhi in an AC first-class coach of the Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express from Bokaro Steel City railway station the same evening.
Hemant had said that his father was being shifted to a New Delhi hospital for better care and pending health check-ups. Shibu, who was also a former Union minister, had cardiac, kidney and prostate problems. He was discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on September 6 after testing negative.
After his discharge, Shibu stayed at the government bungalow of JMM’s Rajmahal MP Vijay Kumar Hansdak in New Delhi. On September 14, he took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP, where he was elected on June 19.
JMM office bearers said Shibu will be actively involved in the canvassing for the impending bypolls to Dumka assembly seat, which fell vacant after Hemant took oath from Barhait. “Besides Dumka, Guruji will also canvas for JMM candidates and the coalition in the impending Bihar assembly polls,” JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said.
Notably, Shibu’s youngest son Basant, who is the president of JMM youth wing, is likely to be fielded from Dumka.
