Haryana police seize 2,179kg drugs during lockdown | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Following an intensive and planned crackdown on drug-peddlers, Haryana police have managed to seize 2,179kg of narcotic substances worth crores of rupees during the Covid-19 lockdown from across the state.
Director General of Police (DGP), Manoj Yadava said on Sunday that police had an intensive plan to keep a tap on all illegal and unlawful activities by enhancing night vigil, intensive patrolling and organization of nakas. The restriction on public movement also gave our men an opportunity to make targeted efforts, which proved a strong deterrent for peddlers and their sympathisers as police thwarted all their attempts to push drugs into the state.
“In the two months of lockdown, 326 cases were registered under the provisions of NDPS Act and 506 accused arrested on the charges of possessing drugs between March 23 and May 23, 2020, he added.”
Giving details of the seizure, the DGP said around 288kg of ganja, 1,341kg poppy husk, 14kg heroine, 11kg opium, 331kg ganja patti, 56kg charas, 844gm smack, 23kg doda post, 115kg opium plants, 92,305 pharma tablets/capsules and 1,565 syrup bottles were seized during this period.
The maximum number of 97 cases were registered in Sirsa district followed by 41 in Fatehabad and 27 in Rohtak districts.
Taking cover of the lockdown, the drug peddles tried their best to push drugs into the communities however our vigilant police teams have thwarted most of their attempts, added the DGP.
