Himachal Pradesh: Police seize 1,735 kg poppy husk from truck | Shimla News

The approximate market value of seized contraband is around Rs 80 lakh to Rs one crore .

SHIMLA: Even during the lockdown imposed to fight Covid-19 pandemic, illicit drug traders are not stopping their operations and this becomes evident with the seizure of record 1,735 kg of poppy husk from a truck by Una Police during night patrolling at Amrali village under Haroli police station area. While the truck driver managed to flee from the spot under the cover of darkness leaving behind his truck, the police team ended up making the biggest ever seizure of contraband in Himachal Pradesh.
It is being assumed that the truck was coming from Rajasthan but it could be confirmed only when the driver is arrested. Biggest ever haul of contraband by Una Police has also left many surprised as it is hard to understand why the truck was not checked before entering Una in Himachal Pradesh.
On Sunday wee hours, a police team was checking vehicles during night hours and when a truck was stopped around 3 am during night patrolling by the police team. The driver ran away after seeing the police party on patrol and is being identified. On checking the vehicle the contraband was found. As the vehicle was entering Una from outside the state, possibly from a state far away most likely from Rajasthan is there but the same could be confirmed only when the driver would be arrested.
The approximate market value of seized contraband is around Rs 80 lakh to Rs one crore .
Confirming the development, SP (Una) Karthikeyan Gokulchandran said that a case has been registered and further investigation is on.
During last 10 years in Himachal Pradesh 11,818 kgs of poppy husk has been recovered and maximum was in the year 2010 when 2042.300 kgs of poppy husk was recovered but now highest ever seizure of poppy husk has been made this year as till April 30 total 549.600 kgs of seizure was made but with fresh recovery of 1735 kgs now total seizure has crossed 2284 kgs which is highest in last 10 years.
