Himachal Pradesh power minister tests positive for Covid-19 | Shimla News

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh power minister Sukh Ram Chaudhary has tested positive for Covid-19. The minister himself informed about this through a tweet and asked people who came in his contact recently to isolate themselves and get tested as well.
The minister testing Covid-19 has left the health authorities and administration worried as since July 30 onwards he has come into contact of large number of people and tracing the contact chain would be a challenge for them now. Along with Chaudhary, his personal assistant and a BJYM leader have also been tested positive.
In the cabinet expansion held on July 30, Chaudhary was administered oath as cabinet minister during a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan where governor Bandaru Dattatraya, chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, some cabinet ministers, chief secretary and other officials were also present.
After taking oath, Chaudhary had reached Peterhoff hotel in Shimla where chief minister had to interact with media persons. At Peterhoff, Chaudhary was surrounded by large number of his supporters from Paonta Sahib assembly constituency of Sirmaur district who had come to congratulate him for becoming minister.
On July 31, Chaudhary along with state BJP president Suresh Kashyap had travelled to Paonta Sahib and on the way they had met BJP workers and leaders at Shoghi, Kadaghat, Solan and several other places right upto Paonta Sahib.
Sources said that Chaudhary after suspecting coronavirus like symptoms had got himself tested at some laboratory where he was found positive after which he returned to Shimla and got himself tested again at Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla on Thursday and was found to be positive.
As Chaudhary had met large number of people since July 30 onwards now it also needs to be checked how many people would be identified and isolated. Tracing contact chain of Chaudhary since he was infected is also going to be a challenge.
Chaudhary is first top politicians of Himachal Pradesh who has been tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier, former Naduan MLA and present vice-chairman of HRTC Vijay Agnihotri was tested positive and currently he is also in isolation.
