JMM dist prez ‘stops’ workers from joining Sita’s protest | Ranchi News

Chatra: Local JMM workers and leaders here on Monday demanded the removal of district party president Pankaj Kumar Prajapati after he reportedly prevented them from joining a protest attended by MLA Sita Soren at the Tandwa industrial town. The protesters also said they will launch a fast-unto-death stir if their demand is not met soon. Prajapati has, however, refuted the charges.
Soren, who is the sister-in-law of chief minister Hemant Soren, had come to support those protesting against the Amrapali project in Tandwa on August 26. When the local workers tried to join the JMM MLA at the protest site, Prajapati in collusion with senior party leader Binod Pandey reportedly passed an order asking them to stay away from her programme. Soren has already written a letter to party president Shibu Soren against Pandey charging him with hatching a conspiracy against her. Prajapati also allegedly took action against a few workers who met the MLA.
Charging Prajapati with running the JMM in Chatra like a dictator and treating it like his personal asset, the workers said he weakened the party in the district. Prajapati has also humiliated Soren by asking the workers to stay away from her programme, they charged.
JMM Kisan Morcha Chatra president Ravindra Singh said two meetings were convened in which the workers demanded the removal of Prajapati. “We had apprised senior leaders of the party with our demand,” he said. Other party leaders, including central committee member Santosh Nayak, district spokesperson Rajkishore Kamal and vice-president Kailash Singh, said they would soon meet party Shibu Soren and Hemant Soren with their demand.
Talking to TOI about the charges levelled against him, Prajapati said the MLA did not inform him or the district party unit about her programme in Tandwa. “When she arrived and suddenly informed us, I made the required arrangements by instructing the block leaders. She, however, came and sat at the office of NTPC, some 10 km from the agitation site. We kept waiting for her, but she returned to Ranchi from there only,” he said.
Prajapati further said the charges levelled on him that he suspended a few leaders who met the MLA is baseless. “I have only removed a worker who was involved in money demand using the name of the party,” he said, adding that those raising a voice against him are unhappy as he refused to comply with their illegal demands.
“Even the son of one such leader was caught by police for involvement in criminal activities. I am working here for the betterment of the party and will not succumb to any illegal pressure,” he said.
