BARNALA: Barnala police have arrested one serial offender facing 19 criminal cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Arms Act, snatching and theft in seven districts of Punjab.
The arrested person, identified as Yakoob Mohammad @ Jagroop(30), belongs to Nathowal village in district Ludhiana and is proclaimed offender(PO)in six of the cases.
Barnala SSP Sandeep Goel said that on Tuesday evening the Barnala police apprehended him from a naka while he was travelling in Innova SUV HR 12J 2005. Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 273 gram heroin, Rs 50,000 in cash as drug money.
SSP further said that upon verifying his antecedents, police got to know about his history. It was found that he faced 19 FIRs in seven districts of the state regarding NDPS offences, Arms related crime, snatching and theft.
He has been declared PO in six cases which include three cases in district Barnala, one case each in district Sangrur, Ludhiana Commissionerate and Ludhiana Rural. He has also served jail terms in the past. Further investigations are being made, added SSP.
