Only 6 Out Of 464 Protectees In State Paying For Security | Chandigarh News

Chandigarh: Haryana police give security to 464 people, but are being paid for it by only six of the protectees. It came to light in the reply provided to an unstarred question posed by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Abhay Singh Chautala and Congress MLA Neeraj Sharma. The duo had asked the government to provide details of protectees of the state government and their categories.
According to details provided, of the 6 protectees paying for their 7 security guards, one is a former MLA and the remaining 5 come from varied backgrounds and are based in Gurugram. Barring a medical professional who has been given two security guards, the others have opted for one security guard each. The reply was given by CM Manohar Lal Khattar who heads the CID department which monitors and recommends security as per the threat perception of the protectees. His reply revealed that 66 security personnel have been deployed with 15 MPs from Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, while 17 security guards are attached with 6 former MPs.
As many as 811 security personnel have been deployed with 90 MLAs (including Kuldeep Bishnoi who is covered under Y category and has resigned) and 98 security men are deployed with 47 former MLAs. What has raised eyebrows is the deployment of 523 security personnel with 316 people, including former ministers, politicians and private persons, in the name of security threat. This also covers over a dozen people assigned cover on the directions of various courts.
Prominent among those who have been given given security from state quota are Haryana BJP chief Om Parkash Dhankar, Kuldeep Bishnoi and his wife Renuka Bishnoi, HPCC president Uday Bhan, former CM and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala, former minister Capt Abhimanyu and his wife and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala,
“This was our main contention in going for the calling attention motion. We know that even those having a shady background or those close to those in power have been given security cover without any reason. This, at a time when police stations are finding it hard to function and law and order is deteriorating,’’ said Abhai Singh.
Congress MLA Neeraj Sharma said he had decided to raise this question after to MLAs began getting threatening calls . “I am surprised at what is happening and how the security threat is being assessed. It was only after the cases were registered that the security men assigned to MLAs were increased. Else, the government had been selective,” he said.
