Punjab: Woman commits suicide; husband, in-laws booked | Chandigarh News

PATIALA: The police here have booked a man and his family members after a 20-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself to death at her in-laws house. The police said that the family members of the deceased woman claimed that her husband and in-laws family members used to torture her for not having any child.
The police said that the deceased woman has been identified as Shabnam, 20, of Tejbagh colony, near a mosque in Patiala city. The police revealed that the case was registered on the complaint of Akbar Khan of the same colony who is the father of the deceased woman.
The police said that Akbar Khan in his complaint alleged that he married off his daughter to the accused Talib around 1.5 years ago but the couple did not have any child since then. The complainant further told the police that the accused Talib and his parents and brothers used to torture Shabnam for dowry also. He said he had given dowry to the accused family during the marriage and later he was unable to pay any more and meet their demands.
The police have booked the accused Talib, his parents including mother Mehtab and father Shakeel Ahmad, and Talib’s elder brother Asif and younger brother Rasid in the case and initiated a probe into the matter.
ASI Gurmel Singh, Investigation Officer in the case said, “The main accused Talib has been nabbed and we got his sampling for Coronavirus done but the results are awaited. He will be produced before the court. The case against Talib and his family members is registered under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). We are carrying out the raids to nab other accused booked in the case. The accused and his family are fishermen.”
