Tamil Nadu records highest one-day rise in Covid-19 cases, 1149 test positive; death toll at 173 | Chennai News

CHENNAI: As many as 1149 people tested positive for Covid-19 even as Tamil Nadu government announced relaxation in lockdown on Sunday. This is by far the highest one-day rise. Thirteen people died. Case tally in the state now stands at 22,333 and the death toll rises to 173.
Chennai district reported 804 cases, Chengalpet 85 cases, Kancheepuram 16 cases and Tiruvallur district 47 cases.
Number of cases reported within the state was 1,054, while 95 people, who tested positive were returnees from other states and countries.
On Sunday, two people from the UAE and one from Myanmar tested positive. At the domestic terminal four people from Delhi and one from Maharashtra tested positive. In addition to this, on Sunday, 61 passengers from Maharashtra; six from Karnataka; three each from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha; two each in Bihar, Gujarat and West Bengal; one each from Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Puducherry and Rajasthan, who travelled by road and rail, tested positive.
The state officials tested 12,049 people and discharged 757 patients in the last 24 hours. The total number of people cured now stands at 12,757.
Among those who died, four people did not have co-morbidities and an equal number of them were below 60 years of age. On Friday, a 49-year-old man from Namakkal died 16 minutes after admission. He died following respiratory failure but did not have co-morbidities, according to the state bulletin. On Saturday, a 39-year-old woman, who had kidney failure, died 34 minutes after admission.
The youngest patient to succumb to the disease on Sunday’s bulletin was a 37-year-old man from Kancheepuram, who was admitted to a private hospital on May 16 with complaints of breathing difficulty. He died on Friday due to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
