Anchoring on Liberal arts education perspective, the Webinar series focused on diverse views of new opportunities, changes and disruptions that will emerge from the rapidly evolving global economy, key priorities and the future directions.
The six-day-long series covered six topics and focused on new opportunities, changes and disruptions that will emerge from the rapidly evolving global economy, key priorities and the future directions post the pandemic. The Conversation on Disruptive Innovation in Education was moderated by Shyam Viswanathan and the speaker Mukul Saxena, Head, Training Content and Technology, Tata Power skill Development Institute, Mumbai highlighted that in academia that content is easily available, the insight and experience gained by students through industry linked courses will be the differentiator. Ashvin Parameswaran, Higher Education Manager, Ready Tech, Sydney described the digital shift in services such as academic affairs, student affairs, career services and counselling services. He also reiterated that liberal arts education helps students have a broader understanding and exposure as opposed to siloed learning.
Another session, dedicated to discussing Game Changing Digital Transformation was moderated by Avinash Shenoy, Executive Vice President, Social Beat, Bangalore and the Speaker Gowthaman Ragothaman. The session detailed digital transformation through platform economy which connects prospects, partners and customers through acquiring and using data to build organizations. He also outlined the movement from web1.0 to web 2.0 to federated learning of web 3.0.
Dr. Raju Balakrishnan, spoke on the Future of International Education. He outlined the various emerging models of collaborative programs across the globe. He said that universities across the globe are innovative and flexible in offering different formats to enable the students to gain exposure and experience to gain international perspective.
The Conversation on India Emerging as a Stronger Economy was moderated by Joe Scaria, Independent Journalist and the speaker Valliappan Nagappan, Investor and Independent Director discussed the impact of Covid 19 on Indian economy and threw light on strategies that government should take for the revival. He also cautioned that while India is optimistic about FDIs shifting from China to India, there are many South East Asian countries that will closely compete. He also shared that industries should focus on import substitution to decrease the dependence of other countries.
On day five, the session on Infusion of Technology in Academia was led by the Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam, Dy Vice Chancellor & CIO of Asia Pacific University, Malaysia and moderated by Rajesh Kumar, Co-Founder of FACE Academy. Dr. Thiruchelvam outlined the blueprint of APU in bringing technology in education. The seven strategies of infusion of technology included live classes, pre-recorded sessions, discussion sessions, on-line demonstration, role plays, virtual exams and assessments, consultation hours and group learning. He also listed the various tools that can used by academicians for an exciting and engaging teaching learning process.
Next Wave of Innovation, the sixth session, directed the conversation of building an innovation economy. Mr. Ramanan Ramanthan, Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Ayog, Government of India was the speaker and Vish Sahasranamam, Co-founder and CEO of Forge, was the moderator. The conversation centered on how black events like covid 19 can trigger innovation for an economy like India to thrive. He described the Atal Innovation mission of the government, which is holistic, national and inclusive aligned with UN SDG in schools, Universities, Industries and NGOs. He pointed out that technology and agility in uncertain future will drive industry winners. He also emphasized though massive transformations will happen in digital and technology sectors need liberal arts students to be more human and customer centric in design. He quoted Steve Jobs “It’s in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough — its technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities that yields us the results that make our heart sing.
This engaging series had 1600+ registrations and participants included industry professionals, academicians, NGOs, entrepreneurs & students.
