Thiruvananthapuram: Locals protest over the burial of Covid-19 victim | Thiruvananthapuram News

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local residents have come out in protest against the decision to bury the mortal remains of a man who died on Tuesday and was tested positive for Covid-19. The funeral was planned at Malamukal cemetery, Vattiyoorkavu. The residents however cited a court order banning burial in the cemetery and that it was a residential area.
The church authorities said that they chose this cemetery for funeral as the cellar at Nalanchira church could not be used in compliance with Covid protocol for management of dead bodies. The authorities then decided to bury the mortal remains at the cemetery at Malamukal. A pit was dug at a depth of 12 ft and residents forced the operator of the earth mover to refill the pit.
The revenue authorities are now holding discussion with local residents and church members to resolve the issue.
