CHENNAI: Two woman guest workers from Odisha died when a pile of bricks fell on them while they were working in a brick kiln near Minjur in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Parimala, 18, and Madhana, 19. They were natives of Mancheri village in Odisha’s Kalahandi district. They were working at KRMP Brick Chamber in Valuthigaimedu village along with 180 labourers from their state.

Though the other workers tried to pull them out the pile of bricks, it was too late. Their bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Ponneri for postmortem.
On information, officials from the revenue department rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. “They were working at the KRMP Brick Chamber. They decided to stay back and work while several labourers from their state returned to their native state by special trains,” said a revenue official.
