The woman had rented the second floor flat at D-block in Palam Vihar a week ago
NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old Delhi Police woman constable posted with Tihar Jail was found murdered in her apartment in Palam Vihar on Wednesday. The body had strangulation marks on the throat, police said.
A preliminary probe revealed that she had rented the apartment a week ago and was staying alone. The cops have recovered CCTV footage from the area, which shows a man leaving the house and riding away on a bike. His face, however, was covered with a mask. The possibility of a robbery attempt gone awry was also being probed.
The incident was reported around 12pm when the woman’s landlord informed the police. When the cops reached the second floor flat at D-block in Palam Vihar, they found the woman lying on the bed.
The landlord claimed that he found the door to her apartment partially open and peeped inside to check as the lights and fan were switched off. He presumed that the woman had left for work and forgotten to lock the door.
The body has been sent for an autopsy to ascertain the nature of injuries and the exact cause of death.
The woman was a 2018 batch constable posted with the Third Battalion of Delhi Armed Police. She was working as a daily diary entry operator for the duty officer between 1pm and 7pm.
The landlord also told the police that the woman was accompanied by another person when she had approached him to rent the apartment. “Efforts are being made to track the person down,” the cops added. She was also in touch with an Army personnel, who had visited her in the apartment a few times after she had moved. Police would question him too.
